Ferrington Vineyard is one of the defining Pinot Noir sites in the New World. Located just outside the small town of Boonville in Anderson Valley, its history of creating vibrant, balanced wines goes back decades. Part of its charm is what is sometimes described as the “wildness” of its Pinot Noir, a reflection of the region’s rugged terroir. Ferrington’s success is also due in large measure to Norman Kobler, who has meticulously farmed the vineyard for 25 years and lives on the property. His deep knowledge includes nurturing the Pommard clone that comprises this Pinot Noir. Its lifted aromatics and earthy nuances, evocative of classic Burgundy, are fully illuminated here. The unbridled nature of the wine encourages generous use of French oak from the Sirugue cooperage. These barrels are selected specifically for the umami character they impart, which beautifully frames Pommard’s alluring spice.
